ED2

So I just got back from a walk with my wife. She just decided that she will not be attending her law school graduation this December because she is not proud of graduating in 3.5 years. Remember, she took a semester off because I strongly encouraged her to in order to go into residential treatment for her eating disorder.

She feels like she would have been proud if she were graduating on time, but the delay is unacceptable. Selfishly, I am rather bummed because it is a graduation of sorts for me as well. I have been supporting her for the past 2 years and have been looking forward to this event for quite awhile. I know graduations are among the most boring events in the world, but they are still symbolically important, at least to me.

She has dug her feet in on the issue and I dunno if she will budge. I have asked her to reconsider, but I do not think that will get me very far.

Has anyone else experienced a similar sentiment?

I ditched my HS graduation.. my college grad.. and my OTS grad.. never was much into the honorary celebration thing. I say let this one go, let her get her career focused and in line.

Oh I do not care all that much about the graduation itself, but I would like her to acknowledge the accomplishment and allow us to celebrate in some manner. There are not that many events to celebrate over the course of a lifetime and I hate to miss out on one.

Dwinx - if she doesn't want to attend her graduation and you want some way to celebrate - why don't you do something special for her? Plan a little get-a-way or go do something that you both enjoy. There are other ways you can celebrate without attending the graduation ceremony.

I never went to my university graduation either.

Figured as i'd spent 5 years doing my degree i deserved to skip it. Was in employment by then anyway so figured there was no real point.

See dwinx what YOU should do is wait until she gets her diploma then treat her to a weekend away some place to celebrate and congratulate her. She'd probably appreciate that more.

I love it. Great idea Nikki/Raven. :)
